2018 END OF SEASON AWARDS

A fantastic evening of celebration, awards, beer and dodgy dancing...

Over 100 members and their better halves took part in the Football for Fathers' Annual End of Season Awards, held on 24 November 2018 at the Canary Club, Hitchin. Here's rundown of what happened, and who won what...

CLUBMAN OF THE YEAR - BOBBY LEE

Bobby (above, in the sharp shirt) was the outstanding and unanimous choice as our first Clubman of the Year

Shown here with the FFF Committee (minus Whitey), in addition to his trophy, Bobby received a charitable donation on his behalf of £500 towards DS Achieve, a local Hertfordshire based charity that supports children with Downs Syndrome and their families. You can read more about that here.

Surprise!

PLAYERS' PLAYER OF THE YEAR - JIMMY SIVERNS

"Marking Jimmy is the equivalent of trying to catch a greased otter…" With accolades like that Jimmy followed last year's winner - Neil Burks by being voted as our Players' Player. He was unable to attend the FFF End of Season bash, but was presented with his well deserved trophy by Neil in a glamorous, poolside location in Hitchin...

Beat that BBC #SPOTY.

VIDEO - BOBBY WINS CLUBMAN OF THE YEAR 2018

HOLD IT...HOLD IT...HOLD IT SOME MORE... Bobby is about to win Clubman of the Year! Here's the build-up and announcement of Brian Clough's favourite winning.

NOMINATIONS...

Jimmy, our Players' Player...

"He is just annoyingly good in all the positions and you know you are going to end the evening knackered if you are playing against him..."

"I'm voting for Jimmy because he can actually score..."

"Marking him is the equivalent of trying to catch a greased otter…. Absolute quality player: great first touch, shooting is lethal and he's very quick (even though his feet do not appear to leave the floor when he runs?). He is the player you always want on your team and dread when he's on the opposition. Nice bloke as well"

"Consistently pressures the opposing team, excellent ball control, accurate passing and the power he gets behind his kicks is phenomenal. He's just too good!"

Everyone else...

"Bheema is always solid, but lately he's become an absolute stone-cold brick wall in defence..."

"James (Hanbury ) is our old fashioned style centre-forward. Top player and great to have him spear-heading the attack as he's always an outlet for a long pass..."

"For a big chap, Wayne's got a lovely touch, a helluva shot on him and he can marshall a defence well..."

"Hard to pick one from a whole bunch of  UnSung heroes who do the gritty, non-stop work in midfield - people like Angus, Steve (Rowe), Chris (Anderson), Mike, Bill, Chris (Emmerson), Phil, Steve (Richardson) and Alex. However Ian gets my vote..."

"Each week Justin delivers a strong, solid performance in defence. He tracks the ball well and has the ability to be in the right place at the right time to stop an attack and pass it up field for his team to be on the counter attack quickly..."

"I don’t come to FFF enough, but I have never seen Bobby play a bad game"

"Gareth "the Reducer" gets my vote as Most Improved as he’s learned to shoot and his slide tackles have come a long way (by next year he’ll be able to get the ball rather than peoples legs)"

"Luke is an absolutely class player..."

"I'm voting for John - the one who runs like a gazelle..."

"Tom Austin drives the smallest car I have ever seen but don’t let that fool you… from behind that small wheel has emerged a true midfield stallion who keeps getting better and better. He can beat players with some wonderful mazy runs, tackles and can run a game in midfield. If he had a theme tune it would be Black Beauty…"

"Players Player for me is Scott - great all rounder who you always want on your team"

"Amazing how far Praks has developed in under a year - good team player who isn't afraid to get stuck in..."

"Chris White purrs with quality like an expensive pedigree cat .What makes him stand out is that he organises the team around him and encourages all – he is a leader on the pitch. Plays great football and gets a team knocking it around on the deck rather than trying to skin everyone or playing the Hollywood pass..."

"Bheema's now a rock at the back, and bloody awkward to play against!"

"Tom Austin seems to get better every time I see him play..."

"Neil Turnham is technically excellent and don't give him time to shoot otherwise you mostly regret about it afterwards..." (How much did Neil pay for this?)

"I've noticed in my limited time here that Matt Hubbard's decision making and finishing has noticeably improved..."

"Playing against people with pace  on that surface is a nightmare and we have many who can be devastating - Said, John, Jimmy, Luke, Paul (Dare), Matt, Dan to name but a few..."

'My first choice for upfront - Dan L will always have a shot on goal if he can..."

"Justin defends with total commitment, does the ugly stuff without grumbling and is a quality footballer. A rock at the back, with majestic distribution up-field..."

"I saw Adam tackle someone without sliding through them the last time I played..."

Video - DODGY DANCING...

Video evidence that alcohol can invoke dangerous levels of mediocre Dad's style dancing. Special mentions to Wayne, Angus and Tom...
